Thursday, November 10, 2011. I got up early knowing the morning would fly by as I had to be at St. James by ten o’clock in the morning for my Jonah study. Although most of us know the story about Jonah and the whale, the purpose of this story was not to teach us about Jonah but to teach us about God. Through Jonah’s experience, God reveals that although he will pour out his wrath on the wicked, he is also a God who eagerly pours out his grace and mercy on those who repent. Jonah is a story about second chances.

As that day’s class came to a close, I wrote down my prayer concerns. When it came time for me to pray, I could hardly speak. Through tears I shared I was facing one of the most difficult days of my life on November 23, and I asked the women to continue to lift me up in prayer. As I regained my composure and gathered my belongings, my phone rang. It was a familiar number—it belonged to my attorney, Michael Cohn. I quickly exited the classroom to have some privacy, and we discussed my upcoming sentencing.

I became extremely frustrated as we reviewed the protocol and fine-tuned my statement, yet I had to remind myself that just a few minutes earlier, God’s presence filled the room. Who was I going to trust? Our conversation ended and I hopped in the car and headed toward Land O’Lakes, Florida.
